Wealdstone denied victory at Leiston

Wealdstone conceded a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw at in-form Leiston last night.
The Stones, who are second in the Ryman Premier table, looked on course to take the three points after Tom Pett’s opener but a goal from Emmanuel Osei salvaged a draw for the hosts.
The contest was played in difficult conditions as high winds made flowing football hard to come by.
Gordon Bartlett’s side had a let off after ten minutes when goalkeeper Rikki Banks was unable to collect the ball and it was cleared off the line.
After coming under pressure, the Stones broke away and grabbed the lead in the 28th minute. Chris Moore found Peter Dean in space and he set up Pett who finished neatly with a low strike past Dan Heath.
Leiston almost equalised before the break but Banks pulled off a superb save to preserve the visitors’ lead.
Wealdstone had a decent opportunity to extend their advantage in the second half but Dean blasted his shot over the bar.
The equaliser arrived 12 minutes from time when a poor backpass exposed Banks and Osei took full advantage by firing in a deserved goal for Leiston.
Wealdstone still had chances to get a late winner but failed to find the net despite efforts from Chris O’Leary, Pett and Leon Smith.
The Stones eased to a 3-0 home win over Hastings United at the weekend as they kept the pressure on leaders Whitehawk.
Wealdstone’s opener came after half an hour when Sean Cronin converted a penalty after Pett was brought down in the area.
The home side made it 2-0 after 58 minutes when Alex Dyer picked out Dean in the middle and he fired the ball into the net.
Wealdstone sealed the win ten minutes later when a long ball from Cronin found Dean and he calmly lofted it over the keeper for their third goal.
The Stones are at home to Lowestoft Town this weekend in the league.
