Laura Turner believes she is “worthy” of making another Olympics after suffering the heartbreak of missing the home games in London due to injury.

Turner, who runs the 100m and 200m, missed out on the London Olympics due to a third stress fracture in her foot and she came very close to quitting running.

Turner said: “There was a moment when I thought “that’s it” after missing out on the Olympics.

“The only reason I’ve stayed is due to my massive improvement last winter. To be running around 11.3 in April was unheard of for me, hopefully I can hit those times again and stay injury free.”

The Harrow athlete has decided for a change of coach and has left Linford Christie’s sprint group to train alongside Britain’s fastest woman of all time Montell Douglas and coach Daniel Plummer.

“I am really happy with my winter season,” Turner said.

“Now six weeks on, I understand how to technically run a certain way for certain times and it has been brilliant training alongside Montell.”

At 30, Turner is starting to see her life outside of being a full-time athlete.

She has become a part-time running coach in schools, which is something she says is satisfying.

Turner still believes she has what it takes to make an impact on the track though, starting with this season.

“My aim this winter is gold in the European indoors. Then the season aim is to get into the World Championship team. I will be running the 100m and 200m this year.

“I definitely want to be at the Commonwealth games in Glasgow and then I will see how my body holds up after that.

“I believe I am worthy of making another Olympics.”
