Emma Wiggs secures place in ParalympicGB squad for sitting volleyball

Emma Wiggs will represent ParalympicsGB at London 2012 after she was selected to form part of the women’s sitting volleyball team.

The Harrow-born star had her place in the 11-strong squad confirmed yesterday and can now look forward to competing on the world’s greatest sporting stage.

Twenty-one athletes have been selected to form the British teams for this summer, bringing the total number to have their places at the Paralympics confirmed to 204.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson was on hand as the British Paralympic Association announced the squads.

This will be the first time Great Britain will have both men’s and women’s teams represented at the Games, with only standing volleyball teams having competed prior to London 2012.

Johnson said: “The ParalympicsGB Sitting Volleyball team has a truly inspiring line-up of athletes who demonstrate the phenomenal power that sport has in bringing people together.

“As the huge demand for tickets has shown, the 2012 Paralympic Games has captured the public’s imagination and I for one am really looking forward to watching the action in a few months’ time.

“I would like to wish the team the very best of luck when they battle it out against the best teams from around the world this summer.”
