Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett is confident his side have learnt from their recent cup disappointment as they prepare to face Uxbridge.

The Stones suffered a shock home defeat to Beaconsfield Sycob in the FA Cup and Bartlett does not expect his side to make the same mistakes in the FA Trophy this weekend.

Bartlett said: “On the day Beaconsfield were better than us and we needed a stronger work ethic. If we can do that then we will give ourselves a chance.

“From what I have seen, we are learning from our experiences and disappointments. We have to apply ourselves properly because there is no doubt they will be fired up for the game.

“It is a local derby and they’ve been on a fantastic run, winning 15 of their last 17 games. They have been doing something right and beat Lowestoft last year so we certainly won’t be taking them lightly.

“Our aim is to play against a Conference side but to do that we have to beat the teams at our level and lesser levels.”

The Stones thrashed Enfield Town 6-0 in the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Watford loan duo Brit Assombalonga and Connor Smith both impressed with two goals apiece. Scott Fitzgerald and Alex Dyer also scored leaving the manager with plenty of selection dilemmas ahead of the Uxbridge game.

Bartlett said: “I thought they did very well. Both Brit and Connor scored two and they certainly made an impact. They have given me some nice options for the weekend and I have some difficult decisions to make.”

Wealdstone’s recent upturn in form in the Ryman Premier continued on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Concord Rangers.

Assombalonga marked his full debut for the club by opening the scoring after eight minutes.

The hosts equalised but Wealdstone grabbed a winner eight minutes from time when striker Richard Jolly netted from 18 yards out.
