Wealdstone suffer miserable start to season

Wealdstone started the season with a whimper after a 2-0 defeat at Hastings United on Saturday.

The Stones are expected to mount a strong challenge for the Ryman Premier play-offs but they misfired in a disappoiting performance at Hastings.

Former Watford goalkeeper Jonathan North was forced into two excellent saves which kept the scoreline level at half time. But he could do nothing about Sean Ray's 60th minute header which opened the scoring. The game was killed off five minutes later when Kenny Pogue fired in the second goal of the match.

Stones boss Gordon Bartlett said: "We were flat all afternoon and looked very tense. It is all very well calling ourselves a passing team but actually you have to pass the ball, we didn't and we made it too easy for the opposition. I am very disappointed at that performance."

His side have the chance to respond immediately with their first home game of the campaign this evening against Tooting and Mitcham United.
