Middlesex take on Royals in charity clash

Middlesex Panthers will try to rediscover their best Twenty20 form when they entertain an all-star cast of cricketers in a charity match on Monday.

The British Asian Challenge will see Shane Warne lead Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural Indian Premier League champions, into action against the reigning Twenty20 champions at Lord's.

The Panthers ended a disappointing defence of their trophy on Sunday as they finished bottom of the South Division with eight defeats from ten games. But Middlesex have the opportunity to find the form, which took them to the title last year, against the Indian side.

The Panthers were meant to take part in the Champions League last year but missed out after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Middlesex's Owais Shah is looking forward to the fundraiser.

He said: "The British Asian Challenge is so exciting – we'll be going up against a team that includes some of the best international cricketers from India, Pakistan and Australia."

Australian legend Warne, who will skipper the visitors, said: "The team are really excited about being the first IPL team to showcase our talent at the Home of Cricket.

"Twenty20 has changed people's perceptions of cricket and it's got a brand new and growing fan base – this match will give everyone who hasn't had a chance to see Twenty20 live an experience they won't forget – and with a line up of talent they may not see playing together again under one roof."

The match is being held in aid of the British Asian Trust, one of the Prince's Charities.

Tickets for the game, which starts at 4.30pm, are available through the MCC ticket office on 0207 432 1000 and online at www.lords.org
