Daryl Janmaat is confident Watford can maintain their flying start to the Premier League season.

The Hornets are up to fourth after goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Janmaat sank Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's.

Watford host joint-leaders Manchester City next weekend and defender Janmaat sees the clash as another chance to show they mean business this term.

"We're unbeaten with eight points from four games so it's a fantastic start to the season," he told the club website.

"We have got to continue like this and on Saturday we have Manchester City at home and a great opportunity to try to stay up with them.

"We are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment. We have a good team, some good signings, a lot of strength in the team and pace up front.

"I think we can threaten a lot of teams with the way we are playing and we can have a great season."

French midfielder Doucoure broke the deadlock when he pounced from the edge of the area seven minutes before half-time.

Janmaat settled the match when he rifled in the second from 25 yards just five minutes after coming on as a substitute.
