Bristol City are likely to make changes of their own for tomorrow night's Carabao Cup tie with Watford, with the Robins contemplating on their second of three games in six days at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets are likely to rest several of their warriors from Saturday's 2-0 win at Bournemouth, but are likely to face a Robins side doing the same ahead of a crunch Championship fixture with Aston Villa on Friday.

Lee Johnson's side drew 0-0 with Millwall at the weekend in a game they struggled to get going in, and have played five times in the opening two weeks of the season to date.

"We made five changes in the first round against Plymouth and put on a fantastic display," assistant head coach Dean Holden told the club's website. "We’ve got a very good squad, there’s people vying for places, we’ve had a lot of games in a short amount of time and we’re playing Aston Villa on Friday, so that will come into our thinking.

"It’s a fantastic challenge for us and I’m sure the players who come in will relish going to a Premier League opposition, with a great stadium and really grab the shirt and try to keep it."

Big-spending Watford's greater squad depth has opened up real question marks over who will line-up for the Hornets tomorrow, and head coach Marco Silva kept his cards close to his chest when questioned as to who may be in line for a start.

It is a conundrum not lost on the Robins coaching staff either, and one keeping them guessing as to what kind of team they may face for a place in round three.

Holden added: "It might be tough to select what team they might play. Whoever they do select they’ve got quality right through that squad now.

"They’ve recruited very well through the summer and have a very good young manager in Marco Silva who’s come from nowhere really at Hull last season. They play a good style – will Troy Deeney come in for example?

"We have to be right at our maximum to get a result. But we’re fully confident that we can go there with a lot of energy and impose our style on the game."
