Wealdstone have been giving goals away like confetti in the early weeks of the season and showed little sign of abating against a Chelmsford City side who were unfortunate not to score more in a 2-0 win at Grosvenor Vale on Saturday.

For the second time in five days, more than 900 fans packed into the Vale but were again left frustrated, both by the Stones performance and that of referee Ryan Atkin, who denied them two clear penalties on the day.

Chris Dickson put Chelmsford in front just shy of an hour in, and 12 minutes later former Southend striker Lee Barnard sealed victory, ironically from the spot.

Three defeats from four have left the Stones five points off the early play-off places - and only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

New Leyton Orient loanee Aron Pollock started at centre-back alongside Ciaron Brown, as Josh Hill's injury at Gloucester finally caught up with him and he missed out.

A miserable night against Havant and Waterlooville on Monday had left a dominant Wealdstone wondering how they had failed to score - but against Chelmsford, the roles were reversed inside the first 10 minutes.

Chris Bush's 25-yard free-kick was kept out only by the width of the crossbar before Dickson's lob was likewise denied, and Pollock showed his credentials to clear Matthew Johnson's strike off the line.

Just before half-time, and having weathered the storm, Elliot Benyon was thwarted from close-range by Clarets goalkeeper Sam Beasant, and a scarsely deserved 0-0 scoreline remained at the break.

There was only so long the Stones' rearguard could hold, and with little improvement forthcoming with the start of the second 45 minutes, it broke.

Dickson smashed a well-placed effort beyond North into the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead, and less than a quarter of an hour later Barnard, bundled over by substitute Matty Whichelow, stepped up from 12 yards to fire beyond North.

Michael West was deserved late on by the post for a third that Chelmsford would have deserved, but their victory was secure against a well below-par Wealdstone.
