Head coach Marco Silva insisted he is still "confident" in Watford's squad despite a second-straight stalemate in their final pre-season game with Real Sociedad.

The Hornets again failed to really test the opposition goalkeeper, having drawn a blank last weekend against Aston Villa, and have not added to their squad since July 13 despite Silva calling for new signings "as soon as possible" a week ago.

The 39-year-old may be feeling like a broken record having to repeat that he is still on the look-out for "more than four" additions, but his worries are yet to be eased with only seven days to go before the Premier League kicks off next weekend.

However, he insisted he retained confidence in the Hornets squad on the back of five new signings arriving at Vicarage Road this summer.

He said: "We have confidence in our players. What’s clear for everybody and I’ve said before is that we need to make moves in the market. That’s not three or four players, that’s more.

"I know that, the club knows that, and we need to do something as soon as possible to get the right players in.

"We have confidence in our players and squad, but you need more competition in our attack line and in other positions, because we need to be ready for a hard competition like the Premier League.

"I want more, and our board know this. It’s not because I want it, but we need to improve the squad."

Brazilian striker Richarlison was an onlooker from the stands this afternoon as the £11.2-million man awaits a work permit to join the club, and Silva is hopeful of making him his next addition.

He said: "We need to wait for a work permit, but at the moment he’s not your player.

"If everything goes ok, he can come to us and play for us, but for the moment we have to wait. We will see [how long it takes]."
