Various reports in the Portuguese media are stating Benfica winger Andre Carrillo is close to a loan move to Watford.

The Peru international would represent somewhat of a coup for the Hornets, having plied his trade at the top level in Portugal, with Sporting Lisbon and more recently Benfica, since 2011.

Indications suggest Carrillo would join the Hornets on loan for the season, with potential to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

Benfica are said to be asking €1million from Watford for the loan, which would see the 26-year-old reunite with former boss Marco Silva, who managed him at Sporting in 2014/15.

That season proved the most successful of the player's career to date, scoring seven times in 46 appearances.

Such was his reputation at Sporting that Carrillo became one of few players to make the move across Lisbon to join Benfica a year later in a move not short on controversy.

But his first season with the Portuguese champions brought only three starts in the Priemiera Liga, opening the door for a move away from the Estadio da Luz.
