A dreadful afternoon with the bat sealed Bessborough’s fate as they again never came close to registering their first win of the Middlesex County League Division Three season at Wembley.

A 138-run defeat came after the hosts had put themselves into bat and put on a sizeable 275-8 before they hit their time limit, as Bessborough never got to grips with Wembley’s bowling and stumbled to 15-3 at one stage.

Having taken to the field first, the league’s basement side had made an early inroad when Moazzam Rizvi was bowled by Sharuban Kanthasamy for 14.

But the runs soon racked up, and Kibreeth Rameez finally caught and bowled Harold Jones for 41, but thanks to a strong partnership with opener Amir Mahmood, the hosts were already at 132-2.

Rameez’s bowling would at least help in keeping Wembley’s score down, with another two wickets - both run-outs - falling on his watch, while Nitin Modha taking 2-28 also restricted their tally, albeit not by much.

Needing to chase 276 for victory, losing Kushal Patel (8), Hemmen Jutla (2) and Rishi Patel (0) early on did little to aid Bessborough’s cause, but Vikram Teja steadied a rocking ship with 44 from 50 balls, including six fours and a six.

Rameez made a start before he was bowled by Zaneeq Mashkur for 23, but two ducks, Rajan Modha and Vivek Patel, brought them back to earth at 92-7.

Rohan Desai put on another 20, with Will Grogan still battling on - and ending unbeaten on the same score.

But Kanthasamy’s four and Modha’s five, before they were both removed shortly after coming to the crease, saw their luck run out and they ended 137 all-out.

The defeat is Bessborough’s sixth from six games so far, and with a five-point penalty leaves them 17 points adrift at the bottom of the division.
