Well-publicised injury woes came back to haunt the Hornets this weekend as Manchester City pummelled Walter Mazzarri's woeful Watford at Vicarage Road yesterday.

The Italian head coach bowed out of a forgettable reign at the helm of the Golden Boys with the joint-largest defeat of his 11-month spell in charge.

In a cruel twist of fate, Watford were missing six centre-backs against Champions League-bound City, but it was little excuse for the manner they folded - nearly falling behind as early as the first minute.

Once Vincent Kompany headed the visitors in front from a corner, the 16th time Watford had conceded from a flag kick during the season, the writing was on the wall, and once a subsequent brief spell of pressure from the Hornets had subsided, City kept up their dominance.

Here's how Watford rated on a miserable day at The Vic:

Heurelho Gomes - 7
Made some fine saves to keep the scoreline down, especially before the break, but trying to play his way out from the back with Sergio Aguero bearing down on him was suicidal early on.

Daryl Janmaat - 5
Not his normal self and horribly skinned by Leroy Sane in the build-up to the third goal - although questions must be asked about Watford's inexplicably high line. An injury in that footrace ended his season.

Valon Behrami - 5.5
Superb tackle to stop Aguero sliding in a goal before the break, and while lacking match sharpness and in a position which is completely unfamiliar to him, could have done worse.

Jose Holebas - 4.5
Directly at fault for two of Man City's goals, losing Aguero completely for their second and showing no thought whatsoever when trying to pass his way out of trouble before their fourth. Offered nothing from set-pieces.

Brandon Mason - 5
Got up and down the left-wing and put a shift in, but if there's anyone you wouldn't want to face on your Premier League debut, Gabriel Jesus is right up there. Given a torrid time by the Brazilian all afternoon.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 5.5
Was his usual self in some respects, putting his foot on the ball and trying to drive forward from midfield, but his slip allowed Kevin De Bruyne a clear run for City's second, and failed to affect the game as he has done recently.

Tom Cleverley - 5
More poor set-pieces from the confirmed summer signing, and was otherwise largely anonymous despite doing a lot of running. Has faded badly in the past few weeks.

Nordin Amrabat - 5
Offered precious little beyond one decent cross to Stefano Okaka before half-time, and needs to regain his early-season form when next year comes around, assuming he is still at Vicarage Road.

Etienne Capoue - 4.5
What did he do? Capoue has shown precious little to suggest he will ever be a number 10, especially with his work-rate, which was again lacking as it has been so much this year. Could be a top-quality player if he wanted to be.

M'Baye Niang - 5.5
While tempting to take points off for the way he flung himself to the floor before being substituted, Niang offered one of Watford's better attacks when turning Fernandinho before firing over. Did little of note after that.

Stefano Okaka - 6
Watford's most dangerous player, and worth keeping hold of in the summer. He'll never be a double-figures man but surprisingly good with the ball at his feet and holds it up well against quality opposition.

Substitutes

Andrew Eleftheriou (for Janmaat, 39) - 6
Gave everything on his Premier League debut and City rarely attacked down his right-hand side after half-time.

Troy Deeney (for Amrabat, 59) - 5
Largely anonymous for the final half-hour, but was always going to get a run-out. Looked to have shaken off that hip injury remarkably well.

Dion Pereira (for Niang, 74) - 5.5
Only enjoyed fleeting glimpses of play but may enjoy more involvement next season.
