Matt Wallace is in fifth place on the fledgling Road to Oman standings after finishing in a share of 25th place at the Turkish Airlines Challenge.

Having started the Challenge Tour season with a career-best tie for third at the Barclays Kenya Open, the Moor Park Golf Club professional moved into contention to challenge for another high finish with a six-under-par second round 66 at Gloria Golf Club.

However, the 26-year-old slipped down the leaderboard after carding a one-over-par third round 73 and ultimately had to settle for finishing 14 shots behind tournament winner Ryan Evans after windy conditions made scoring very difficult yesterday.

Wallace’s even-par 72 was the joint second best score for the final 18 holes, retrieving a bogey on the par five fourth with a birdie for the fourth successive round on the par five ninth.

The Pinner-based professional’s second bogey of the round came on the par four 11th, but he ensured he finished his round – and tournament – on a high by picking up a shot on the par five 18th.

Like after the Kenya Open, the Challenge Tour season takes another break before it starts getting into full swing at the Open de Portugal which starts on May 11.

The top 15 players in the Road to Oman standings at the end of the season will secure a European Tour card.
