Harry Kewell's Watford Under-23s had their three-game unbeaten streak obliterated 4-1 by a more experienced Bristol City side at Ashton Gate last night.

Despite taking the lead thanks to a third goal in four games from Tyrell Robinson, who is on trial with the Hornets, the hosts turned the game on its head after half-time and emerged worthy winners - ending a run of six games without victory for the Ashton Gate side.

Fresh from being named on the bench at Spurs two days prior, Andrew Eleftheriou and Brandon Mason were both named in Kewell's starting line-up.

The hosts would go close first when Diego De Girolamo nudged a corner over the bar, but the Hornets responded with two chances of their own, both for Woking loanee Dennon Lewis, in the opening half hour.

First, a well-hit free-kick was well saved by Jojo Wollacott, before a poor clearance from the Robins' stopper left the midfielder with the goal at his mercy, but with the goalkeeper off his line he could only find the stand behind the goal.

Their opener would follow shortly, however. A long ball forward found Ogo Obi with the hosts' defence sleeping and after his shot was saved, Robinson was on hand to prod home.

Charlie Bannister was called into action to save from Jonny Smith before the interval, before Robinson almost doubled his money when forcing a mistake out of Welsh international Adam Matthews, but after winning the ball and rounding Wallocott hit the side netting.

The half-time would provide a welcome breakwater for City, who changed the complexion of the game within two minutes of the restart. Shaun McClousky, a name which would haunt the Hornets in the second 45, found space on the edge of the Watford area and struck beyond Bannister with a fine finish.

The turnaround was complete 10 minutes later when De Girolamo put the hosts in front, slotting home from McClousky's lay-off.

Into the final quarter of an hour, Watford nearly got themselves level when Robinson's cross-cum-shot fizzed inches beyond the far post.

But that miss would only awaken City to the perilous nature of their lead, and McClousky made it three within minutes. Latching onto a long ball forward, he took a touch on the left edge of the area before curling a sumptuous finish beyond Bannister.

And he guaranteed the match-ball in the final moments when firing home a loose ball inside the Hornets' box to seal his hat-trick, and a fine win for Bristol City.

Watford Under-23s are back in action next Wednesday, when they travel to Crewe Alexandra.
