Wealdstone moved within six points of local rivals St Albans City following a convincing 3-0 win at Clarence Park last night.

The Stones battered their hosts on Shrove Tuesday but took until the final 10 minutes to settle a game they had dominated, long after taking a first-half lead through Dagenham and Redbridge loanee Joe White.

There were plenty of chances to double their advantage before 10 minutes from time, they finally settled any nerves when defender Tom Hamblin turned goalscorer with a composed finish following a corner.

Danny Green added a third in the final 90 seconds to put the lemon and sugar on the pancake of success for Gordon Bartlett's side, who are now five games unbeaten.

Bartlett named an unchanged 11 from a hard-fought, attritional victory at Welling on Saturday, and the Stones showed no early signs of fatigue by carving out the opening chance within four minutes.

Aryan Tajbakhsh's through-ball allowed White a run on goal, but he shot into the side netting after he was forced wide by home goalkeeper James Russell.

Missing a second presentable chance could have damaged the youngster's confidence but he made no mistake to open the scoring 21 minutes in, bundling in from close range for his first Wealdstone goal from Green's low corner.

The game was, like Saturday's encounter, not high on chances, and not until the second half did another materialise.

By that point, Saints manager Ian Allinson had already made his three substitutes - including the vastly experienced Jamie Cureton - but he could cause little impact against a resolute Stones defence, marshaled by Hamblin.

White could had had a hat-trick with the chances that came his way, but fluffed his lines when played through by Green and diverted the ball into the arms of Russell when one-on-one.

Nathan Mavila had an effort tipped wide by the Saints custodian, and from the corner the Stones finally doubled their advantage.

Elliott Godfrey's delivery was cleared - but only so far as Hamblin, who brought the ball down and finished beyond Russell with eight minutes to go.

In the final 90 seconds they put the result beyond all doubt when Green was played through by Ricky Wellard, and had time to pick his spot and put the lemon and sugar on the pancake of success for the visitors.

Wealdstone: North, Oshodi, Brown, Sellers, Hamblin, Godfrey, Green, Cox, White (Wright 85), Wellard (Walker 89), Tajbakhsh (Mavila 46).
