Watford pair Troy Deeney and Etienne Capoue can be "even better" than in Tuesday's stunning victory at Arsenal, or so believes head coach Walter Mazzarri.

Both Deeney and Capoue have struggled for form at times during the Hornets' Premier League season - although both have showed their true ability in flashes, something not better displayed than at the Emirates this week.

Mazzarri was left purring with the performance of both his players as Watford played like a well-oiled machine in the capital, for their first ever Premier League win over Arsene Wenger's side.

The Hornets' head coach hinted he had had words with Capoue over the Frenchman's work-rate earlier in the season - and urged him to keep up the talismanic performance he put in at Arsenal for the rest of the season.

"Capoue is a player who has got very important technical qualities," he said. "Ever since I have been here, I have told him to concentrate and give his best as he did on Tuesday.

"Only if he does this, if he does the same, can he end up being an even better player than he is already."

Deeney, meanwhile, looks like a different player since removing the weight of his 100th goal from around his neck, and has scored in each of his last two Premier League games.

Mazzarri also mentioned his captain's motivation when questioned about his improvement, but re-iterated - in both players' cases - that neither had intentionally underperformed during the campaign.

He said: "I saw Troy Deeney in a much better condition on Tuesday night, his movement and everything.

"I want to see him always like this. He can give even more to the team, but the most important thing is that he is fully motivated and in a good condition – then he can be an even greater player.

"It’s not that the players did not want to perform like this before, but we were changing formation and getting players back from injury.

"When the whole team plays well, the players get seen much more."
