Tom Cleverley revealed he had "jumped at the chance" of returning to Vicarage Road after making his second Watford debut in yesterday's draw with Middlesbrough.

The England international, and former Hornets player of the year when he arrived on loan from Manchester United seven years ago, could not hide his delight to be back in Hertfordshire following his move on Thursday.

Cleverley came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 0-0 draw which was largely devoid of chances, and said it was an easy decision to come back to the club.

He said: "I always have a positive feeling when I come back here, that’s why I jumped at the chance to come back.

"It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride since I left, and I’ve really enjoyed my football here.

"I spoke to Troy because I knew him and coming here with Everton a few weeks ago I saw the quality in the Watford side.

"It’s a good opportunity for me to play some games and get some football under my belt.

"Footballers want to play, I want to get that feel-good factor back - I love this club, and I want to bring back the good memories from seven years ago."

Cleverley has played only two minutes of football for parent club Everton since early December, and was an unused substitute in their 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Leicester last weekend.

The 27-year-old suggested his confidence levels had dropped at Goodison Park this season - and that being back at Watford could help to turn his perception around.

"A big attribute for a footballer is confidence," he said. "That comes with minutes on the pitch. Here it’s all about that and getting that confidence back, and I feel I can be a real asset.

"There’s nothing like being on the pitch, getting minutes in the Premier League. You can do as much training as you like, but there’s nothing like being out there.

"It’s 15 minutes today, and hopefully I can get more and more in the next few weeks."
