Troy Deeney says his story will not be defined by whether he plays for England.

The Watford skipper was touted for an international call-up during the last campaign and earlier on this season.

Deeney has yet to be named in an England squad but the Hornets talisman has not lost sight of the rewards he has received during his football career.

Speaking on Radio 5 Live as part of an interview on 'Get Inspired with Darren Campbell' tomorrow night, Deeney said: “My story’s not going to be defined by whether I play for England or not.

"It would be unbelievable and some little book or movie someone might want to do at the end of it. I’m available for offers if you want to know!

“If we got to that point it would be the icing on the cake but as I say I’m in a very fortunate position now where I’ve learnt lessons the hard way.

"The family are taken care of financially and now it’s just about enjoying myself and trying to be the best Troy I can be."

Deeney is one short of scoring his 100th goal for Watford. He has not scored since the start of October but the striker insists he is never fearful when he is on the pitch.

The 28-year-old said: “Football’s the only time I can be a kid and be free. There’s no fear. It’s just a game. I still say that now. If we lose it’s just a game.

"There are only three outcomes; win, lose or draw. After that real life starts again."

The interview will be aired on Radio 5 Live tomorrow night at 7.30pm.
