The Watford Observer understands the decision to sack head of medical Richard Collinge was not influenced by head coach Walter Mazzarri.
According to a source, news of Collinge's exit has come as a complete shock at the Premier League club.
It is understood Mazzarri had no issue or problems with the head of medical and the club's hierarchy, above the Italian, took the decision.
Giorgio Gasparini, who worked under Gianfranco Zola at Vicarage Road previously, is believed to be taking over the role.
Collinge returned to Watford in February 2015 and played a key role in the installation of the cryotherapy chamber this summer at their London Colney training ground.
