Elliot Benyon's seventh goal in nine games was enough to give Wealdstone victory over Weston-super-Mare at Grosvenor Vale last night.

The hot-shot striker added his third goal in as many days from Omar Koroma's cross after 65 minutes in what proved the only goal of the game.

The Stones then showed their attritional side to grind out the win despite pressure from the Seagulls.

Albeit after a game more than many of their opponents, it leaves Gordon Barlett's side sitting fifth in the play-off places, with 16 points from their opening nine games.

Benyon nearly opened the scoring in a first half devoid of chances, but saw his effort cleared off the line by Sekani Simpson.

Weston were the first to show their hand in the second half, when Tom Meecham pulled an excellent save out of Jonathan North, and the introduction of Ricky Wellard and Koroma around the hour mark would prove much needed to revitalise Bartlett's side.

The changes bore fruit almost immediately, as Koroma's first moments on the ball produced the winner; after completeing a one-two with Matty Whichelow, he played in a low ball for Benyon to finish off and keep up his scoring form.

Whichelow could have doubled the lead within six minutes with a 30-yard screamer which cannonned off the crossbar with Weston keeper Luke Purnell beaten.

The visiting stopper was alert to atone for an error several minutes later, and blocked Wellard's goal-bound effort after initially dropping a Stones corner.

With time running out, Weston might have snatched a point when Dayle Grubb played in defender Jason Pope - but he had left his shooting boots in the west country, and blazed his effort over the bar.
