Wealdstone squandered a 4-0 lead to draw 4-4 at home to Truro City in the National League South on Saturday with the visitors' dramatic equaliser coming in added time.

The Stones got off to the best possible start when, after only four minutes, Matt Ball picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and smashed a low strike past goalkeeper Martin Rice.

A great pass by Ball allowed the advancing Jefferson Louis to bully his way past two challenges. The veteran striker rifled home with aplomb with eight minutes remaining in the first half.

Just before the break Matty Harriott tapped home after Rice had saved Bradley Hudson-Odoi’s angled effort to make it 3-0 to the Stones.

A fourth was added soon after, Arran Pugh putting through his own goal to give Wealdstone a handsome lead.

City had showed some dangerous play in rare counter-attacks with the main threat coming from Ryan Brett who went close on 18 minutes.

The expected second half onslaught from the Tigers didn’t materialise early on and the Stones thought they had sewn up the match.

The home side thought they were home and dry but the Tigers were starting to mount an unlikely comeback.

Home keeper Joe Taylor was forced to make a save from point-blank range to maintain Wealdstone's four-goal lead.

The away side, to their credit, always looked capable of pulling a goal or two back and their luck in front of goal changed dramatically as the match wore on.

Issac Vassell started the comeback on 58 minutes before Pugh atoned for his earlier error with Tigers’ second ten minutes before the end.

The miracle turnaround remained unlikely but when Jake Ash scored with a superb free-kick the impossible looked suddenly looked less far-fetched.

Wealdstone were unable to maintain possession in order to relieve the pressure mounting on them.

Almost inevitably Brett equalised for Truro deep in added time to end a breathless match with an unlikely point for the Cornwall side.

Wealdstone, meanwhile, were left kicking themselves after blowing a seemingly insurmountable lead. Gordon Bartlett's side are eight points clear of the relegation zone in 15th.
