Wealdstone’s preparations for the 2015/16 National League South season are well underway after signing four players and tying Scott Davies and Scott McGleish to new deals.

Former Metropolitan Police forward Bradley Hudson-Odoi, Boreham Wood midfielder Ryan Hope, Harlow Town’s defender-cum-midfielder Josh Urquhart and Hanwell Town defender Ollie Duffy have all committed to the Stones.

Meanwhile, midfielder Davies and veteran striker McGleish have agreed to remain at Grosvenor Vale next term, with the latter taking on coaching responsibilities.

It has been a hectic week for Stones boss Gordon Bartlett, who lifted the lid on the process of recruitment.

He said: “I would like to say I have been busy in the last week but I have been busy for the whole summer too.

“It is just very time consuming and these signings have got to be right for everybody.

“There have been a lot of players spoken to now who we won’t sign but the seeds have been sown for the future, which is important too.

“You have to build up contacts and then as you move up the leagues or your financial situation changes, you may be able to bring those players in.”

One such example is former Fulham and Hereford United striker-cum-winger Hudson-Odoi.

The 26-year-old joins from Isthmian Premier Division side Met Police after a lengthy pursuit and Bartlett was delighted to have finally brought the Ghanaian to the club.

He enthused: “He has got pace – which I felt we lacked last season – and he is comfortable out wide or up front.

“We put a seven day approach in for him in the Isthmian League almost two years ago, it has taken a good 20 months to sign him. People think you just pick up the phone and players sign, but it’s just not like that.”

Urquhart joins from Isthmian Division One North side Harlow, who have picked up more than 100 points in each of the last two seasons without winning promotion to the Premier Division.

“He is a good footballer who looks to play,” stated Bartlett. “He was at Northampton Town when he was younger and Scotty (McGleish) knows him from there.”

Meanwhile, former Hanwell centre-back Duffy switches to Stones having slipped down the leagues after rejecting a professional deal at Wycombe Wanderers.

“I spoke to the Hanwell Town manager and it was a similar case to Tom Pett,” explained Bartlett. “We had to bide our time.”

Former Watford trainee Hope returns after spending time on work experience.

He moved to Boreham Wood and helped Harrow Borough avoid the drop on loan but never played for the Stones.

Bartlett said: “He has a good engine on him and is one with potential.”
