Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett insists winning the Middlesex Senior Cup final this weekend and clinching the double would be the icing on the cake this season.

The Stones wrapped up the Ryman Premier Division title two weeks ago and can claim another trophy on Saturday when they host Hampton & Richmond Borough in Saturday’s final [4pm kick-off].

Bartlett said: “It would finish off a fantastic season for us. This would be the icing on the cake if we could get another piece of silverware.

“The priority is undoubtedly achieved because even if we don’t win we’ll still be playing at a higher level of football next season which is exactly what we set out to achieve.”

Bartlett added: “We haven’t got to the final for a long time and it’s a bonus that this year it’s at our home.

“Hampton won the last time they came here and they are a very good side on their day. We will have to be at our best to ensure we get two cups in the cabinet.”

The Stones finished their championship winning campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Canvey Island on Saturday. Charlie Penny and Peter Dean scored in the last ten minutes before the team lifted the title.

Bartlett said: “It was the perfect weekend of football. To win the last match, have the trophy presentation followed by a brilliant awards evening and then the veterans match against a Watford Legends XI on Sunday.

“It was a fitting finale for us when Peter came on and got the second goal. It was nice going into the last day with no pressure and the celebrations were brilliant.

“You couldn’t have asked for any better, everybody had a smile on their face and it was just a great day. I will cherish these moments for a long time.”

Tom Pett won the players’ player of the year and the supporters player of the year. Elliott Godfrey was named the management’s player of the year.
