Improved performance by Harrow Borough in Lewes draw

Harrow Borough produced a much improved performance as they drew 1-1 at Lewes in the Ryman Premier League.

Home goalkeeper Kieron Thorp was called into action early on when he was forced to save Simeon Akinola’s strike.

Joakim Ehui followed up but his effort was parried by the shot topper and Danny Buckle sliced the rebound wide of the target.

The visitors created another golden opportunity when Steve Ferguson’s cross was tipped away by Thorp but Akinola was unable to find the target as he missed from eight yards out.

Boro’s top scorer made amends in the second half when he gave them the lead.

Akinola chased a poor backpass and the keeper got to the ball but his clearance cannoned off the striker and he tapped into the empty net.

Dave Anderson’s side only had the lead for one minute as goalkeeper Elvijs Putnins came out to gather the ball but slipped over and it bounced into the unguarded net.

Boro still had another decent chance to regain the lead but Buckle’s strike flew wide of the target.

Anderson’s side finished the match strongly with a succession of corners but had to settle for their first draw of the season.

It was a welcome result which halted a run of four consecutive defeats.

The Reds crashed out of the Ryman League Cup after a 1-0 home defeat to Kingstonian on Tuesday.
