I was very pleased to hear that Brent Council has made building a swimming pool in the north of the borough one of its top sporting priorities.
Swimming has become incredibly popular in the UK recently following all of the coverage of Rebecca Adlington’s fantastic double gold-medal winning display in Beijing and now that the Olympics are on their way to London in 2012, it is important that we as a council provide the facilities necessary to allow people to take up this growing sport.
I have been lobbying for a swimming pool to be situated in Roe Green Park, Kingsbury, for a long time now as the park was previously home to a very popular and well-loved open air pool in the past.
Roe Green has good access links around the borough and in times of concern about rising obesity levels will hopefully encourage all people, young and old to take up a sport.
I have also encouraged and assisted the launch of a local resident group project called the Friends of Eton Grove Park and we are actively campaigning for a swimming pool as well as a cricket pitch as a priority for Queensbury residents.
A swimming pool situated in Roe Green Park would be a tremendous asset for the whole community and I would urge that people support the local residents of Queensbury in their campaign for a pool there.
