Six students from an Elstree school will hold a cultural evening to raise money to provide schooling for children in India.
Olivia Mullaney, 17, from Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls, in Aldenham Road, is one of six students helping to organise the International Cultural Evening.
The evening will feature students from the girls’ school as well as from the boys’ school based in Butterfly Lane, Elstree and will include performances of Israeli song, Japanese dance and an international meal provided by parents.
In addition to raising money for charity, the evening promotes the ethnic diversity of students studying at the school.
Olivia said: “It is great fun to be involved in the charity work, as we get to work with our friends and get to know other girls we did not necessarily know that well previously.”
Proceeds raised from the event will go to the Wings of Hope charity, which provides free education in developing countries to children living in poverty, orphaned or separated from their families.
Olivia added: “It also makes us proud to be helping children in India to receive the education they deserve, especially as we are all so grateful for the excellent education we receive. We believe it is a basic human right for every child to have an education.”
The event will be held on Thursday, January 29, at 7.30pm.
Tickets are primarily sold to parents and pupils but if people have any connection to the school they can buy a ticket by calling 020 8266 2300.
