At this time when politicians of all colours — whether MPs or councillors — are prepared to cosy up to everyone in an attempt to win your vote, it has become crystal clear to me that the employees of Harrow Borough Council regard the council tax payers with utter contempt.

My case in point is a complaint I made to the waste collection team concerning the abuse suffered by my wife in late February, when she had the temerity to point out to one of the waste collectors that our bin had not been emptied.

The driver would not get involved, so a complaint about the behaviour of the collector was made, and an instant response was received with an incident number.

I also made a complaint to the police because it was in truth, more akin to anti-social behaviour and not something one would expect from a council employee.

The police were not interested and now it seems neither is the council, because despite numerous requests for an update, I have been repeatedly ignored.

If the council employee had been on the receiving end of the abuse my wife suffered, we would have been in trouble, as the notice on the side of the collection lorries make clear.

We are still waiting for an apology and I believe we never will get one.

Because of this silence from Harrow Council over this incident, I have, in a desperate attempt to get this matter resolved, written to the chief executive asking him to intervene and guess what? Nothing, no reply.

I just do not believe no one will take responsibility for their actions, so I have decided that next October, when the second instalment of council tax is due, I shall take the money, all in £5 notes and put it into the nearest drain.

That is how I feel the money we pay is wasted.

However, by placing the money in a roadside drain I will probably be in trouble for fly-tipping or vandalism — such is the usual one-sided and high-handed attitude of Harrow Council.
