With the Conservative Government imposing £82million of cuts on Harrow Borough Council and our residents over the next four years, we have to look at all our services to make savings.

The proposal to introduce zonal cleaning, will mean all shopping areas will be cleaned on a daily basis. It will allow our cleaning teams more flexibility so they can target particular areas where there has been an increase in fly-tipping, as well as having designated ‘responsive’ teams to deal with issues between scheduled cleans across the borough.

This all still equates to a budget spend of £2.6m for street cleaning in the borough.

We have been open and honest with residents by putting this information online for all to see.

We feel, after speaking to residents, that this is more transparent than our original suggestion of writing to only a small number of residents.

All administrations should take every opportunity to improve and build on their policies, and this is what we have done.

It’s time for Cllr Susan Hall and her Conservative group to either propose their own fully-costed draft budget, or start working constructively with us, so we as councillors can best serve our residents in these tough times for Harrow.
