Thai Pongal is a harvest festival, held every year to honour the Sun, for a bountiful harvest.
Special rice dishes are prepared; homes are adorned with banana and mango leaves and decorative patterns drawn with rice flour. Families gather to rejoice and share their joy and their harvests with others offering of a ‘pongal’ of rice and milk.
Organised by the Harrow Tamil Community Association with support from Harrow community development services, we would like to your readers to this year’s community celebration, which takes place on Saturday, from 6pm to 9pm in the Harrow Council chamber The event includes cultural performances and refreshments.
