While reading Gareth Pryce’s letter (“Once gone it will be lost forever”, Your Views, October 9), a thought occurred to me: would it not make sense to build a new, purpose-designed arts centre alongside the heritage centre? This would probably attract lottery funding and could be combined with development work on the Kodak sports field site.
The land and buildings in Hatch End could then be restored to their original purpose, to house one of the proposed new schools.
In this way, full use could be made of the site without extensive redevelopment.
While this may not achieve the original aim of short-term savings (unless the new school paid for the site?), it would benefit the educational and cultural future of Harrow.
