Until I sold my home in Stanmore in March I was a constituent of Bob Blackman MP. Currently I’m living in my holiday home in Tel Aviv where I have been subjected to a daily bombardment of rockets from Gaza.

The fact that the Israeli government protects citizens with shelters and Iron Dome missiles means I and thousands of others have been saved from a gruesome death.

That more than 1,000 Gaza civilians have died is entirely due to their Hamas Government spending money on rockets for attack rather than shelters for defence and actively encouraging its citizens to die.

I am appalled by Charlotte Kelly’s ill-informed letter (“Why did this trip go ahead?”, Your Views, August 7) and wish to totally support Mr Blackman’s desire to have closer ties with the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.
