Regarding the proposed changes to council tax benefit which featured in your paper last week, (“Tax benefit consultation’, Harrow Times, July 3), it’s worth pointing out that Harrow Borough Council’s Labour administration could fund this benefit if it wanted to.
The council has underspent by £25million over the past two years and the benefit is costing less than predicted — but Labour look set to cut it anyway.
Their efforts to blame the Government are just smoke and mirrors — Labour are the ones proposing to cut the benefit even though they’re aware that a great many people who receive it are disabled or face other difficulties.
Who’d have thought when Labour said they would ‘make a difference for the vulnerable’ they meant hitting them with bigger bills.
