Moving the Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) to a better accommodation and conducive learning atmosphere at the former Bentley Day Centre makes good sense considering that the PRU is not just a caring place but an educational establishment with a deliberate attempt to create the environments where disaffected pupils can be kept safe and healthy and learn through an alignment of service provision and support services.

Surely the new centre would provide better opportunities to inspire the pupils to learn in new and interesting ways and through a wider curriculum that could be more readily taught at the centre?

In scoring points and saying that such an appropriately needed educational move in the best interest of most vulnerable and high-risk children is a “slap in the face for residents”, (Your Views, July 3) the Tory opposition has not only demonstrated their lack of respect for the needs of these pupils but also ignorance about the educational care requirements for them.

Opposition for the sake of opposition is most unhelpful.
