How is it that every time Labour are in administration in Brent, they always try to close Knowles House despite the excellent work that is carried out there?
There are not many places left now for our Brent residents to get the type of care the staff at Knowles House provide and did so for my former colleague and mayor, Eric McDonald, who went there for rehabilitative care after being knocked down by a car.
I am also aware of another example in which the centre provided superb care to a young lady suffering from a brain tumour whose initial prognosis was considered bleak before her visit to Knowles, but who now lives a full, rich and independent life.
These people are just a few of the many residents that the staff at Knowles House have been able to help and care for over the years.
So I am at a loss as to why this Labour council seems determined to destroy this wonderful centre without making provision for an adequate replacement?
A facility like Knowles House should be preserved and helped, rather than closed down, but I have become so disillusioned with this uncaring Labour administration that I have come to expect nothing less.
Councillor Reg Colwill
Conservative group deputy leader, Brent Council
