This week I have been focusing Harrow Police resources to deal with robbery . I have been surprised with the number of young people who have been arrested for robberies who have no previous convictions.

Harrow police will be sharing information with Harrow Council departments including housing and Children Services on all arrests of young people.

I want to avoid criminalising young people but will deal firmly with anyone who assaults and steals from people.

Please note some basic crime prevention advice.

Robberies ■ Staying safe is about listening and being aware of what and who’s around you.

■ Keep your jewellery covered when you are in public places.

■ Wear you bag across your body, so that it opens on the side facing you.

■ If somebody does try to snatch you bag or your jewellery, let it go and don’t fight to keep it - you’re less likely to be hurt.

■ Don’t take short cuts through dark places. Walk in the middle of the pavement facing the traffic, so vehicles can’t follow you.

I met with PC Dan Sebastian who has completed his probation period and is working in the CID main office. PC Sebastian is a man of few words but enjoys working as a police officer.

I met with CID officers from Harrow to thank them for their hard work DS McIntosh, DC Paul Mansi, T/DC Lisa Linsley, A/DS Richard Cafferty and T/DC Lindsay Rogers had dealt with a serious multiple stabbing. The team arrested the offender and the victim has made a recovery. The officers were outstanding and I am very proud that these dedicated officers are working in Harrow helping to catch criminals . I tried to persuade the officers to have their photographs taken but they wanted to retain their anonymity as they work in plainclothes operations regularly.

Sergeant Bill Edwards is retiring and will be big loss to the borough . Bill is an old fashion copper, totally committed to the police and a very hard worker. I will be disappointed to see him go as he embarks on his new career working on funfairs! The Safer Neighbourhoods Team's Community Board met for their initial meeting this week and I was pleased to see Inspector Russell Hughes and Head of Intelligence, Sunil Galoria working with the group on where police will be patrolling. I have high hopes that we can deliver some reductions in crime working with the Community Board.

I spent Friday assessing promotion applications for superintendents in the Metropolitan Police Service. The process is very competitive and the standards quite rightly are very high. I am confident the best candidates will be selected.

I have been busy in the garden and allotment this week collecting potatoes, the next few weeks will also be busy when I will be harvesting the rest of my vegetables.
