With St George’s Day just around the corner, it got me thinking about the wonderful English ingredients currently in season featured on our spring menus. Here are a couple of my favourites for this month.
English asparagus
I know I mentioned asparagus in my last post but it’s such a fantastic ingredient and it isn’t in season for very long so you have to make the most if it before it’s gone!
Asparagus is terrific alongside both meat and vegetarian dishes and you’ll find it on our menu served with our signature ravioli dish and also with fillet of brill. Brill is a high-quality, delicate white fish with a sweet taste and again, it isn’t easy to always get your hands on some which is why we love having it on our menus when it’s available. We are currently serving brill with monks beard - a little green shoot grown in Tuscany where they’re only in season for a few weeks, crispy Jersey Royal potatoes, fennel puree and of course English asparagus.
Strawberries
We’ve recently added a new dessert to our menu - strawberry bavarese with balsamic and a strawberry sorbet. Sounds good right? It’s a must try, it’s creamy yet light and refreshing and the strawberries we have in the restaurant are simply amazing.
Strawberries are also lovely combined with another English favourite – rhubarb. A strawberry and rhubarb crumble is a wonderful way to complete a home cooked meal.
I’d love to hear what your favourite English ingredients are – tweet us @IncantoHarrow and share them with us!
