I attended the AGM of the Harrow Police and Community Consultative Group last week and met with many of the ward panel members for the borough who so willingly give up their time to work with their Safer Neighbourhood Teams to tackle local concerns.

PC Sonia Ong, who works in our Youth Offending Team, delivered a presentation to the panel members on Mothers Against Gangs, the newly formed local charity set up last year by mothers who were becoming increasingly worried about their children falling in with the wrong crowd and getting involved in gang culture. PC Ong provides a great deal of support to the group and is always on hand to offer advice to the mothers when needed. There is a huge amount of positive work going on here and I look forward to carrying this forward

In the same week, I attended the AGM of the Pinner Resident's Association.  The residents are anxious to know what is to become of Pinner Police Station under the current Mayor's Office of Policing and Crime (MOPAC) reforms.  I want to make it clear that there are no plans for the closure of Pinner Police Station.

In recent weeks we've received fewer reports of burglary. Of those reported, there is a common theme of the entry point being at the rear of the property. I want to emphasise how important it is that you lock and secure all windows and doors. If you have a side gate, make sure you bolt it using a good quality lock and lastly, if possible, store wheelie bins at the rear of the property preferably behind a locked side gate. Burglary is one of the most insidious crimes and causes a massive disruption to people's lives, let's not make life easy for burglars.

Well done to PCSOs John Duggan and Lisa Donoghue from Rayners Lane Safer Neighbourhoods Team who uncovered a suspected brothel while out on routine patrol in the Rayners Lane shopping area last week.  A strong smell of cannabis drew the officers' attention to a flat and when they made further investigations they found several women and a man in the address. This investigation is ongoing.

Sergeant Roni Doyle and Pinner Safer Neighbourhouds' Team executed a search warrant at an address in Hartington Close, Harrow and found a large amount of cannabis and drugs paraphernalia.  They arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

I am also very proud to relate the story of another recent arrest to you. On the evening of the April 16 we got news of a fingerprint match from the scene of a burglary. By 7am the next day, the burglar was in my cells and by 3pm, the same day, charged with the crime. He was off to meet the magistrates in court on the morning of the April 18. That is what I call swift and robust police action. Burglars beware!
