Thousands of people braved rain and mud to take part in the annual Roxeth Show over the weekend.

Despite heavy rain on Friday and Saturday morning, organisers decided to press ahead with the event in Roxeth Recreation Ground and were rewarded when approximately 3,000 people showed up on Saturday and Sunday.

Organiser Juliette Davies said that although numbers were down on previous years, most families embraced the mud bath and all of the traders still made a profit, with money also raised for local charities and community groups.

She added: “It think it went really well considering the challenges we had with the rain – it was a very difficult situation but we went ahead because we didn’t want to let everyone down who had been preparing for the weekend.

“Lots of people got very muddy and wellies were definitely the order of the day. But we had 62 stalls on Saturday and 75 on Sunday, so it was a really good turnout and we’ve had lots of thank yous for going ahead.

“There was nothing we do could about the weather, but lots of groups rely on the Roxeth Show for raising awareness and funds, and it was amazing that we were able to put on a good show.”

Attractions at the event, sponsored by the Harrow Times , included food stalls, live music, crafts from local traders, a children’s fancy dress competition and a dog show judged by the RSPCA.

And worshippers from Christ Church Roxeth in Roxeth Hill joined in with the activities as part of a celebration of their 150th anniversary.

Ms Davies added: “Our focus now is on making next year’s show even better, and hopefully the weather will be better as well.”
