The organiser of the Roxeth Show hopes that record interest in this weekend’s event will encourage people to shop locally and youngsters to get involved in the community.

Juliette Davies said that the show, held in the Roxeth Recreation Ground this Saturday and Sunday and sponsored by the Harrow Times, had doubled the amount of stalls from last year, with 80 expected.

And with other events being cancelled because of the weather and the London 2012 Olympics, she hopes that thousands will turn out to take part in the entertainment and buy products from local stallholders.

She said: “This year we’ve got ourselves on Facebook, Twitter and have a dedicated website and phone number, and we’ve ended up getting enquiries from everywhere.

“It’s a really important community event and it’s a fun family event that we hope people will come back to on both days because there’s so much going on.

“It’s like a whirlwind, I can’t wait for it to happen. It’s going to be amazing. We’re not worried about the weather because the sun always comes out at Roxeth and we get burnt every year.”

The latest stall to be announced is a Caribbean food shack, and Ms Davies said organisers had begun to turn businesses away because there was little room to accommodate more stalls.

Among the entertainment on offer is live music from Christian group Soul Survivor, and a children’s parade where local school pupils can enter their own costumes in a competition.

Ms Davies added: “A lot of this is about youth and trying to get children out and taking part in community activities.

“It’s about letting kids know that there are things out there to do but they won’t come knocking on your door – you don’t have to sit around bored.

“I would say 95 per cent of the traders that are selling goods or providing anything are local and come from Harrow – so it’s a great chance to promote businesses and encourage people to shop locally.

“It would be a shame to miss out on this event because it’s going to be amazing – there’s so much free entertainment to keep the kids occupied while you’re shopping around.”

The 35th Roxeth Show is organised by volunteers at the Harrow and Pinner Lions and will take place at Pitcairn's Path in Eastcote Road, with park and ride facilities available from Bovis House in Northolt Road.
