SOUTH Harrow is gearing up for its annual fair complete with colourful costumes, dance and music this weekend.

Fairground rides will fill Roxeth Recreation Ground on Saturday and Sunday as families enjoy the HA2CANDO carnival parade, by school pupils in the area.

The much loved Fun Dog Show, including prizes for the dog with the scruffiest coat and the waggiest tail, is back as the Roxeth Show, sponsored by the Harrow Times, enters its 32nd year.

There will also be stalls for charity and community groups and for the first time a craft marquee, where visitors can find a range of gifts on sale, including pottery, dolls clothes and jewellery.

Organiser Juliette Davies, of the Harrow and Pinner Lions Club, said: “Everything is going really well. We've got everything planned out and we start marking up the area tomorrow.

“The dog show is all ready and the entertainment is all lined up. The Roxeth Show is about the local community.

“There's no entry charge and it's a fun day out for families. We try and keep prices down as low as we can with the different stall holders.

“It's about charities raising money and raising awareness of themselves, which once again goes back to the community.”

Last year's carnival parade saw children from across the HA2 post code represent their school in a range of colourful costumes, hoisting huge papier mache insects and birds above their heads.

Indian Dhol drummers set the rhythm as lines of pupils snaked their way around the park and speakers set up on the back of a van blasted out music.

On both days this year, there will be agility dog displays, dance and majorettes, a fun fair, quad bikes, a bouncy castle, and a circus skills workshop with Nutty Norman.

The Fire Brigade from Northolt Fire Station, police horses and a police helicopter have all been invited and will attend on Sunday, depending on availability.

Harefield and Hillingdon Hospital Radio will be broadcasting throughout the event and The Fun Dog Show in association with the RSPCA will start from midday on Sunday.

The show takes place from 11am to 5pm both days at Roxeth Recreaction Ground, Eastcote Road, South Harrow.

Admission is free.
