THE Harrow Times has been deluged with heartwarming tales of rescue dogs taken in by residents after an appeal last week ahead of this year’s Roxeth Show.

The community festival, taking place on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11, is looking for entrants to its dog show, which this year includes a prize for the best rescue dog.

Ten-year-old Alex Gibbs wrote in about his new pet dog Julian, who he adopted at the start of this month.

He and his family, from Pinner, picked out the pointer-collier at the Harefield Show, and Alex said: “Every dog should get a loving home. They deserve a second chance.”

Pensioner Hazel Russman took in a Parson Russell Terrier called Roger from the Mayhew Animal Home after it was feared no one would take him.

Despite being told Roger was aggressive when she got him, Mrs Russman said, four years on: “He has never threatened me or anyone else, though he remains nervous of men.”

The dog show also features classes for: Junior Handler (8 to 11 years), Junior Handler (12 to 15 years), Prettiest Bitch, Most Handsome Dog, Cutest Puppy (under 12 months), Waggiest Tail, Scruffiest Dog, Best Condition Dog, Dog The Judge Would Most Like to Take Home and Fastest Bonio Eater.
