Families from across the borough and beyond descended on a sunny park for the first day of the annual Roxeth Show.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of people are expected to attend the show this weekend, now in its 36th year, to enjoy the sunshine and celebrate their community.

The Roxeth Recreation Ground, in South Harrow, was packed out with stalls and attractions yesterday for first day of the show which is organised by the Harrow and Pinner Lions and sponsored by the Harrow Times.

South Harrow mum Mona Jethwa said: “It’s a really great event and the best thing is it’s free. We’ve been coming here for years and it just seems to get bigger and bigger.

Her friend Lauran O’Neil, who was with her two children at the show, said: “It’s really affordable and there is a lot for everyone to enjoy.

Mary Kilroy, who was there with her children, said: “It’s really nice to see the whole community out and enjoying themselves. It’s been great fun for the children especially.

A fun fair, bungee trampolines, fairground games, a tug of war and for the first time a performance stage were just some of the activities people enjoyed.

A highlight of the first day of the event was the HA2CANDO Children's Carnival which featured schools from the area parading into the park.

Emma Billington, headteacher of Earlsmead Primary school, which took part in the school parade, said: “I think it’s a lovely event and it’s a great chance for all the schools to get together and engages with the wider community.”

Harry Bellak, president of Harrow and Pinner Lions, said: “We’re really pleased with the turn out this year and the response from people.

“Our main drive is to foster a community spirit and to help support local businesses and community groups.

“It’s a special year for the Lions with it being our 50th year anniversary and the show is a lovely way to celebrate.”
