A new mother is hosting an informal get together with other mums after being inspired by a social app.

Laura di Bari, from Harrow, organised the ‘Mumday’ event as part of a nationwide campaign by Mush – a free app which helps mums meet up with one another.

The aim is to encourage interaction between mothers, particularly given that they can often suffer from isolation following the birth.

Time devoted to the baby, concerns about crying and breastfeeding, issues with public transport and cases of postnatal depression mean mothers can often spend little time out of the house.

Laura said: “When I had my baby I found it quite difficult at first to meet other mums. My personality is quite open but it was finding the time and the people.

“I found that going for a walk in the park was quite lonely but it was much more enjoyable going for a walk with another mum and her baby.

“Mush was very useful. I found it very helpful and I want other mums to have that as well.”

Laura, who gave birth to her son, Roberto, just three months ago, has organised the event at The Castle pub in West Street, Harrow.

She explained how this is because going to the pub is “a bit like breaking the rules” for a new mother and she wanted it to be a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

The event, which starts at 12pm on November 20, will see a raffle, an ‘item swap’ of unused baby things and a number of discounts on toys and clothing from nearby shops.

The main reason for the gathering, Laura explained, is for mums to meet other mums.

She still maintains some of the friendships she has built up through Mush and believes it can be a very helpful tool going forward as one cares for a young child.
