A disabled association is urging people to vote for its projects in a funding competition so it can continue to provide much-needed services.
The Harrow Association of Disabled People (HAD) has put forward two schemes to the Aviva Community Fund.
The first, ‘Improving Disabled People’s Lives’, would enable it to maintain the benefit welfare services, which benefit many disabled people living in the borough.
HAD explained that, last year, more than 1,400 disabled residents were given advice on how to maximise their income and obtain what the law says they are entitled to.
This brought in some £1.2 million to some of the poorest households in Harrow and is considered a vital service to those with disabilities.
The second project seeks to benefit the deaf community in Harrow by offering British Sign Language (BSL) lessons to anyone who wishes to take it up.
