A charity is hosting workshops tailored to specific communities so they can learn about the importance of mental health.

Mind in Harrow, an affiliate of the national Mind charity, will be putting on free classes for the Tamil and wider South Asian communities in the borough.

They will deal with how to cope with an emotional crisis and explore the wider importance of maintaining a healthy wellbeing.

There will also be advice on where to go for wellbeing support for yourself and for others and look at the options available for anyone experiencing difficulties.

Mark Gillham, chief executive of Mind in Harrow, said the workshops are particularly important given the struggles people can face at work and the issues this can lead to.

He said: “This project is of vital importance to address the disadvantages faced by our beneficiaries.

“People with mental health needs continue to have some of the highest unemployment rates of any group, despite wanting to work.

“While attitudes to mental health in the workplace are improving, negative views about the ability of people with some mental health diagnoses to be successful employees sadly persist.”

The sessions take place on December 5 and 6 from 12pm to 3pm at the Jaspar Centre in Rosslyn Crescent, Harrow. A Tamil translator will be present throughout the workshops.
