Venues across the country are gearing up to take part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of MacMillan.

Teas, coffees, cakes and – most importantly – a load of donations will be the order of the day in Harrow on September 29 to help raise as much money and awareness as possible for the charity.

Those who work for and closely with MacMillan, including its coffee morning partner Marks and Spencer, are encouraging everyone to take part in the monumental effort.

Andrea Nelson, a MacMillan head and neck nurse at Northwick Park Hospital, explained how the money raised has a huge impact on the charity.

“Everybody gets together for this major event – it really is the world’s biggest coffee morning. Last year in London alone we raised £2.2 million,” she said.

“It’s so important for people to support the cause as it goes towards supporting people with cancer and funding MacMillan professionals.”

She noted how, working as a head and neck nurse, she sees a lot of the visible, life-changing effects of cancer.

The money raised from the coffee morning helps fund nurses like herself, and they can benefit from Macmillan grants to give the best possible care to their patients.

“We may not always be able to cure the cancer and solve all the problems, but there are ways we can help and can improve the quality of life for these patients,” Andrea said.

With thousands of new cancer cases being diagnosed each year, she explained how it is still vital for people to engage with fundraising.

This can be achieved at a number of coffee morning locations, which can be found at coffee.macmillan.org.uk
