Hundreds of people turned out for an inaugural ‘bubble run’ to help raise money for a hospice.

People from across Harrow came together to take part in the 5km run around Kenton which was staged by St Luke’s Hospice.

The money raised will be “invaluable” to the centre as it will go towards its running costs, which are roughly £3.5 million a year.

A total of £35,000 was pledged by participants at the ‘Bubble Rush’ and much more is expected to come through as fundraising efforts continue.

Staff and volunteers at St Luke’s were thrilled to see so many people at the event and appreciated the effort of the community.

Jayna Patel, events fundraiser at St Luke’s, said: “It was fantastic to see so many supporters at our first Bubble Rush. People of all ages came together to show their support for their local hospice.

“Everybody had lots of bubbly fun and helped to raise an amazing £35,000 and counting.”

The day was particularly popular with children and one participant, Kath McBrien, explained how her three kids had a lot of fun.

She said: “I took part with the whole family. We had a great time running through the coloured bubbles.

“My son loved throwing the bubbles around and getting totally covered in soap suds. We took part because we knew the kids would have a great, fun day out and it help to support the hospice at the same time.”
