Harrow Council has lowered its flag to half-mast as a “mark of respect” following the tragic attack in Manchester last night.

It is believed that around 22 people, many of whom were children, have died and 59 people were injured after a suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande pop concert at the Manchester Arena.

Michael Lockwood, Chief Executive and cllr Sachin Shah, Leader of the Council, said: "The flag outside the Civic Centre is at half mast today as a mark of respect to the victims of yesterday’s atrocity in Manchester. Our thoughts are with their families and with those who battle their injuries in hospital.

"We stand together with all our staff here at Harrow Council in condemning this attack and rejecting the hatred it represents.

"We are proud to serve one of Britain’s most diverse and harmonious communities, with people of so many faiths, ethnicities and nationalities living together and free to pursue happiness and prosperity. We would like to pass on the Met Police’s advice to be especially vigilant at this time."

This morning, the council tweeted it had lowered its flag for those affected by the events.
