Campaigners are calling for more traffic-calming measures outside a school because they fear a child will be hit.

Concerns have been raised over traffic near Park High School in Thistlecroft Gardens, Stanmore, following a number of near-miss collisions - earlier this year, residents told the Times Series they saw a child nearly get run over.

Paul Noble said there have been at least four more incidents since then. A driver almost crashed into his wife and his elderly mother was nearly knocked over while crossing Thistlecroft Gardens.

The council is already in the process of reducing the speed limit to 20mph and adding speed cushions to the road, along with Burnell Gardens, but Mr Noble said more needs to be done. He is urging the council to fit a zebra crossing at the gate of Centenerary Park.

He said: β€œIt is only a matter of time before someone is hit. An elderly lady on Burnell Gardens has vocalised how worried she is now crossing the road, and how the volume of traffic has dramatically changed.

"Drivers travel fast down Burnell Gardens and any child coming out from the alley or the park gate is more likely to get hit. Also drivers shoot out from Park High School on Thistlecroft Gardens - having an extra set of speed bumps nearer to the school is important.”

A planning officer said his concerns have been noted and the school has been asked to consider a spped hump within their premises to deal with vehicles that exit at speed.
